Grammy-winning saxophonist Brecker died on january 13, 2007. Michael Brecker, tenor saxophonist who won 11 Grammys over a career that spanned more than 3 decades. Brecker died in a hospital in New York City of leukemia. Throughout his career, Brecker recorded and performed with numerous jazz and pop music leaders, including Herbie Hancock, James Taylor, Paul Simon and Joni Mitchell. Though he was very ill, Brecker managed to record a final album, yet untitled, that was completed just two weeks before he passed away. He earlier had a band with his trumpet playing brother, Randy, called The Brecker Bros. His solo career began in 1987, with a self-titled debut that was voted "Jazz Album of the Year" in both Down Beat and Jazziz magazines. Brecker's is survived by his wife, Susan, his children, Jessica and Sam, brother Randy and his sister Emily Brecker Greenberg.
