Joe Lala, who played percussion with Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, the Bee Gees, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, John Lennon, Ringo Starr, Diana Ross, Barbra Streisand, Etta James, the Allman Brothers, Eric Clapton, Whitney Houston, Herbie Hancock and many others. Joe Lala, king of the congas, played with Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin, the Bee Gees, and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. He played with John Lennon and Ringo Starr, Diana Ross and Barbra Streisand, Etta James, the Allman Brothers, Eric Clapton, Whitney Houston and Herbie Hancock. Lala, born to parents of Sicilian descent in Tampa’s Ybor City, USA, died at age 66 of lung cancer.
